If you are a Texas resident, it is important to protect yourself from potential prosecution by obtaining a Texas License to Carry (LTC). An LTC is a permit that allows you to legally carry a handgun in public.
House Bill 1927, enacted as the Firearm Carry Act of 2021, allows individuals who are 21 years of age or older and who can legally possess a firearm to carry a handgun without first obtaining a license. If they are not legally prohibited due to a criminal record.
Legally, 18-20 year olds can get their License to Carry. Legally, 18 and up can carry Constitutionally without a license because of Court Rulings
The law says you must be 21 but a court ruling says 18-20 years old adults have the same rights as 21 and older. So, Legally 18 and up can carry with or without a license as long as they are not prohibited by mental condition, Felony or class A/B misdemeanor. All Statutes still apply. When texas legislature changes the law to 18 for license to carry, it will then be lawful and legal to carry at 18. Judicial Precidence has said the current law is unconstitutional and so there is no problem getting a license. They still have not said an 18-20 year old can purchase handguns. That will have to change with another Court Ruling in a case or the legislation will have to change the law.
LEGAL V LAWFUL
LEGALLY REFERS TO RULES AND REGULATIONS AND COURT DETERMINATION SETTING PRECEDENCE. LAWFULLY REFERS TO LAWS PASSED BY LEGISLATION IN THE STATE CAPITAL. ONE OR BOTH MAY BE CONSTITUTIONAL. 2ND AMMENDMENT IS RIGHT TO BEAR ARMS. THIS IS CONSTITUTIONAL. WHAT THE RIGHT MEANS MUST HAVE THE MEANING ENTENDED BY THE WRITERS OF THE CONSTITUTION.
That will make you think, right.
